[Maillist] STARS Celebration for Alt. H.S. Students

The 2010 Iowa STARS Celebration is scheduled for Friday, February 5, 2010, at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

This Is Our School
o All schools will bring a “hard copy” display that demonstrates the dynamics of their school and shows why it is a special place.  Preferably, this would be a DISPLAY BOARD, but feel free to be creative.

Teen Challenge
o A friendly competition to see which school is up-to-date on current trends, events, etc.  A game-show format will be used.

Art Display
o Student artwork will be displayed and reviewed by art professionals.

Artistic Performance
o Singing, rapping, musical performance, group readings, etc are encouraged.  An open-mike format will be followed.

Art Mini-Sessions
o Staff from the Hearst Center for the Arts will guide students in the creation of group art projects.

Poetry Reading
o Readings of ORIGINAL students’ work.  Readings preferably submitted with registration for evaluation prior to event.

The Iowa STARS Celebration was established in 2002 to showcase the creativity, talents and scholastic accomplishments of Iowa’s alternative high school students in a setting that is non-judgmental and non-threatening.
